So, where is going the Catholic Church? What is the job, or the most important ministry of priests in the Catholic Church? What are the intentions of our Holy Father? Surely those are questions we have done at some point in the last days or in recent months at some point on our Christian walk (and if we've done, now is a good time ). Great answers and a lot of topis and ideas can be found in the careful reading of the recent interview that His Holiness Pope Francis gave a few days ago the magazine La Civiltà Cattolica. Unfortunately some media have spread about this interview arbitrary interpretations. It is true that Pope Francis highlighted emphasizing that the Church must be merciful to all, and must strive to heal wounds, but that does not mean we have to accept as good certain practices or conduct contrary to Catholic morality. Specifically, as an example, after this interview, he met in Rome with Catholic gynecologists who encouraged them to respect life in all its phases, reminding them that the culture of life is a real priority specific Church teaching. This Pope is a wonderful man, a man of God! I read the interview again and I think that this is a man who is doing much good for the whole Church and for those who come to the Catholic Church looking for some warmth and comfort. A good friend of mine told me recently that the Holy Spirit is giving great gifts to the Church with the past Popes. It is true! With his words, but much more with his deeds, his attitude and his approach as a father and pastor, Pope Francis is teaching us that the first mission of the Church is to preach to the world that we are already saved. He says it in the interview (which I refer readers of these lines), in a paragraph that is heartwarming and endearing: "The Church has sometimes been left wrapped in small things, small precepts. When the most important thing is the first announcement: 'Jesus has saved you'. And the ministers of the Church should be, above all, ministers of mercy" We are all so in need of it! My brothers ans sisters in Christ: it is important not to lose sight never the essence of the Gospel message: God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life! ■ Fr. Agustin, pastor.
